Brother Len Hope; long time Grey-Bruce Labour Council delegate,
retired Canadian Autoworkers Staff, President of the United
Way of Bruce-Grey, life long advocate for working people
in the CAW and all Unions, leader in the struggle
for dignity and respect for the underprivileged in our community,
and much more.
The Grey-Bruce Labour Council is pleased to announce that brother
Len Hope is the 2005 recipient of the Worker's Health and Safety
Centre Grey-Bruce Labour Council Activist of the Year Award. The
award is to be presented at Newman's in Walkerton as part of the
Council's regular monthly meeting on November 28th, 2005.
The award is presented to a community activist that exemplifies
activism in Health and Safety along with an elevated level of
community activism and leadership. The Worker's Health and Safety
Centre has long been the driving force behind the empowerment
of workers in the area of Health and Safety training and activism
in our region and beyond, and Len has often taken on the mantle
of leadership for the Labour Council to ensure that
workers take advantage of this training for workers, delivered
by workers.
As the representative of working people in Grey-Bruce, the Grey-Bruce
Labour Council offers Len our heartfelt congratulations for a
much deserved award. Our region is indeed blessed with many deserving
activists, and in Labour Council President Dave Trumble's words,
"in a region so rich in the heritage of activism it is never
easy to choose one activist over another, but the entire cast
of delegates at the meeting where the choice was made
were very supportive of brother Hope's selection".
