Robert White Social Justice Award: This award is a bursary to graduating students from the Grey-Bruce Secondary Schools who have demonstrated an active involvement in community and social justice issues. An application is required. A PDF of the application information is attached.
Day of Mourning: The Council
supports community recognition of the Day Of Mourning for workers
injured or killed on the job. Ceremonies are held annually at
the Bruce Nuclear site, in Hanover and in Owen Sound. The Council
sponsors an annual speech writing contest. for Secondary Students
in Grey and Bruce Counties on the topic of injured workers. The
speech is read at local ceremonies.For

Worker's Health and Safety Centre and Grey-Bruce
Labour Council Activist of the Year Award: The award
is presented to a community activist that exemplifies activism
in Health and Safety along with an elevated level of community
activism and leadership. The Worker's Health and Safety Centre
has long been the driving force behind the empowerment of workers
in the area of Health and Safety training and activism in our
region and beyond. Since 2008 The Grey Bruce Labour Counil has also identified
a person who by their activity has made a significant contribution to the well
being
of
the
community
by addressing social issues at a local, provincial, or national level.A record
of achievement.
Talking Union: The Council provides speakers to address students in schools. Teachers who are interested in having a speaker should contact the Council. Attached is a copy of the most recent report on this program to school boards.
Labour School: The GBLC in cooperation with the CLC is proud to regularly sponsor a labour school for labour activists.Labour Education Institute April 1-2.
Robotics Competition: The Council has donated $300.00 to the Kincardine Knights Robotics team at their request and is holding another $300.00 available to any Bluewater Robotics team that progresses to the international competition.

Remembrance Day Wreaths Laid: The Council again this year laid wreaths in Kincardine, Tiverton, Hanover and Owen Sound in remembrance of the Canadians who fought to defend our freedoms
The Grey Bruce Labour Council is supportive of a number of socially progressive causes. In the past year donations have been made to:

$300 to Grey Bruce United Way backpack program
$ 500 to Grey Bruce United Way Winter Warmth campaign
$500 to provide student burseries for Kincardine Summer Music
$600 support to Secondary School Robotics teams
$1250 to Union Rocks to permit local labour activist students to attend 3 concert events
